Job Description

Do you want to play a key role in an organisation that stands up for children? Then join us as Deputy Head and Technical Advisor. You will play a key role within the Pneumonia Support Hub, a newly created global team with oversight of Save the Children's movement-wide Pneumonia Centenary Commitment (PCC).

In our UK and Global Programmes department, we fight for children every single day. We deliver humanitarian and development programmes. We build partnerships with institutional donors, including governments, multi-laterals and trusts. We drive lasting change. We go the extra mile - and we don't rest until the work is done.

As Deputy Head and Technical Advisor you will work in close collaboration with the Head of the Pneumonia Support Hub and coordinate and support the work of Save the Children members, regional and country offices to achieve the movement-wide ambitions around the PCC. Primarily, you will lead on Save the Children's current PCC beacon country workstream coordination support and internal pneumonia community management for the Save the Children movement. You will also play a vital role in helping to drive change in countries, by working across the movement to support the design and delivery of credible national strategies that will benefit deprived and marginalised children under 5 who are vulnerable to pneumonia. In addition, you will:

· Work closely with the Hub's Research and Data Adviser, to ensure monitoring and tracking of progress of the PCC global strategy and workplan

· Maintain and support linkages between global workstreams, backstops and the pneumonia beacon country focal points associated with our existing PCC

· Lead on movement-wide coordination working with programme, advocacy and technical colleagues to surface and share the latest updates, resources and expertise related to our Pneumonia technical priority areas

· Represent Save the Children internally and externally in relevant child health/pneumonia events and meetings

· Coordinate with Save the Children's Programme Quality and Impact (PQI) knowledge management and communication colleagues to produce required PCC products.

To be successful you will have a background in public health and significant practical experience of working in a complex institution. Comfortable working in an evolving environment, you will have familiarity with Save the Children, and the Health and Nutrition Global Health constituents. A proven capacity to build and maintain excellent relations and to work effectively in a multicultural and multi-ethnic environment respecting diversity is also essential. In addition, you will have:

· Significant project management and coordination experience, along with proven mediation and facilitation skills

· Demonstrable understanding or experience of enabling knowledge management and creating learning platforms to advance objectives

· The ability to think critically, objectively, analytically and strategically, solve problems quickly and show initiative

· The ability to proactively and accurately identify needs and requirements of a wide range of stakeholders.

At Save the Children we are committed to the safeguarding and protection of children in our work. We will do everything possible to ensure that only those who are suitable to work with children are recruited to work for us. This post is subject to a range of vetting checks including a criminal records disclosure
