Emergency Response Manager - Burkina Faso
Plan International , Oubritenga, Burkina Faso
Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.
We believe in the power and potential of every child. But this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it’s girls who are most affected.
Working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children.
We support children’s rights from birth until they reach adulthood. And we enable children to prepare for – and respond to – crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge.
We have been building powerful partnerships for children for over 80 years and are now active in more than 70 countries.
As the Emergency Response Manager (ERM) in Burkina Faso you will coordinate and provide strategic leadership in all areas of the emergency programming to strengthen the country office’s overall capacity to be prepared for and respond to emergencies in accordance with Plan’s principles and practices. This response will focus on the following four key areas: Education in Emergencies, Child Protection in Emergencies, Food Security and Youth Economic Empowerment.
In this role you will ensure that the Displacement Crisis Response strategy remains relevant, forward-looking and presents a compelling narrative for delivering on children’s and young people’s needs and rights, particularly those of girls. You will make sure that projects implemented are of high quality and meet global standards (Core Humanitarian Standards, etc.) whilst also ensuring that innovative strategies are developed to meet the needs of the protracted crises.
You will build constructive working relationships with other NGOs, UN agencies, donors and other principle stakeholders whilst also promoting a productive work environment with zero tolerance for verbal or physical misconduct or discrimination.
We are looking to recruit a resilient and well-organised individual with at least 5 years of senior experience managing a complex protracted emergency programme. You will have in-depth knowledge of IDPs and nexus-programming and have a good understanding of integrated development issues and critical analysis of child and youth poverty.
You will have well developed written and oral communication skills and the ability to demonstrate leadership and be able to train local and international staff to work in disaster affected communities in a sensitive and participatory manner. To be successful in this role you will work with trustworthiness and integrity and have an awareness and sensitivity of yourself and others.
