Job Description
Chemonics seeks a Marketing and Communications Director for its Procurement and Logistics Technology Center (PLTC) business entity. Chemonics is establishing the PLTC to create a commercial end-to-end supply chain service offering to grow and diversify our global and in-country supply chain management services for health and other commodities that ultimately advance our mission of helping people live healthier, more productive, and more independent lives. The PLTC will provide an operational and technological platform to deliver high-performing, reliable, end-to-end supply chain services at scale, across multiple clients and types of commodities, at a competitive cost. Furthermore, the PLTC will enhance Chemonics’ ability to capture a significant share of the global health commodity supply chain management services market for non-USAID bilateral and multilateral donors, international NGOs, governments, and the emerging regional private sector.
The Marketing and Communications Director will lead marketing, communications, and business development efforts for these expanded supply chain services across multiple clients and types of commodities as part of a multidisciplinary business development team. The director will play a key role in informing the strategic direction of these expanded services to ensure that our value propositions and service offerings are continuously adapted to align with client and market needs. The director will be responsible for creating and executing a scalable marketing strategy to achieve an aggressive new business pipeline and revenue targets. The director will identify and cultivate relationships with prospective clients, prepare offers and pitches, and ensure that strong selling relationships are cultivated during business delivery. Responsibilities Include:
Leadership and Strategy:
Lead the development and implementation of PLTC’s go-to-market strategy for expanded supply chain services
Design and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy to capture the PLTC’s target market segments, namely institutional donors, international NGOs, national governments, and the private sector
Lead business development and proposal preparation efforts
Contribute to and support the development of the PLTC’s technical products, service offerings, and value propositions to maintain full alignment with client requirements and build competitive advantage
Identify current and forward market opportunities and develop innovative strategies to build the PLTC’s position in the supply chain market
Brand and Communication:
Define and implement appropriate brand positioning for the PLTC
Define and implement segment-specific multichannel communication and outreach strategies to take the PLTC brand to market and build a competitive position among target clients
Manage and deliver the PLTC’s formal introduction to the market, including planning and coordinating events and/or communications
Collaborate with the Strategic Communications and GHSCO Communications and Design teams, as needed, for internal and external communications
Develop effective and high-performing communications and marketing collateral (brochures, videos, infographics, etc.) drawing upon Chemonics’ experience, innovation, and talent
Leverage Chemonics’ proven record of accomplishment, resources, and capabilities to promote the PLTC and win new business
Client Engagement
Guided by PLTC’s go-to-market strategy, develop, implement, and manage a deliverables-based work plan that includes structured pursuit campaigns and marketing tools
Oversee the development of sales presentations and proposals
Define and implement an effective Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system and protocols to capture and manage data to support business activities and objectives for PLTC
Develop compelling, appropriate, and competitive value propositions for the PLTC’s service offerings (commodity procurement as well as customized add-on services)
Lead face-to-face engagement with prospective clients and other stakeholders, identifying and analyzing technical requirements.
Participate and speak at conferences and other engagement events; contribute to industry forums, such as technical working groups, conferences, learning events, and blogs/op-eds
Develop effective and collaborative working relationships with key clients and other stakeholders and continually promote outstanding client service and technical leadership, including the introduction and sharing of new and innovative supply chain interventions
Team Leadership and Development
Build a skilled, high-performing marketing and communications team to drive business development strategies
Promote staff development, especially in key competency areas, and build technical depth through coaching, mentoring, and facilitating professional development opportunities in the technical sector
Supervise and evaluate team performance; communicates clear performance goals and standards, ensuring staff receive regular performance feedback
Foster and demonstrate a workplace inclusive of Chemonics’ values of caring, excellence, innovation, integrity, and opportunity
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Marketing, Communications, or relevant degree or equivalent relevant experience required; advanced degree preferred
A minimum of 10 years’ experience in commercial business development and/or marketing/communications for private sector, non-profit, technology, start-up, or agency setting, including experience using multichannel marketing
Demonstrated understanding of client requirements and preferred methods of business in the global health supply chain sector, preferably in the context of international development
Strong relationship building and management skills; demonstrated ability to network within and across industries
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing, lead effective meetings, and effectively deliver presentations
Willingness to travel and work abroad a minimum of 8 weeks per year; experience working on technical programs for emerging economies preferred
Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise staff, multiple project teams, and remote staff
Ability to solve complex technical, managerial, or operational problems and evaluation options based on relevant information, resources, well-rounded experience, and knowledge
Strong knowledge of MS Office applications and experience with CRM software
Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
