Job Description
Chemonics seeks a New Business Associate in support of our Global Health and Supply Chain Office (GHSCO) located in Arlington, VA. The Associate will be a member of the new business team, providing advanced support to the division’s new business strategy and development efforts. The associate will manage and share internal and external knowledge, use internal networks to staff and guide proposal teams, and participate in proposal team line roles. Responsibilities include:
Serve as a member of the new business team according to the division of labor worked out by the team and under the direction of the immediate supervisor
Track, capture, and maintain new business information including but not limited to upcoming proposals, market intelligence, client information, and corporate reporting. Synthesize information to provide analyses and reports on trends, markets, and technical matters
Develop and structure other tools to capture new business-related information and provide recommendations for continual process improvement and information management
Carry out periodic proposal-related research and analyses to assist the region in positioning for proposals
Support proposal team staffing at capture and live phases; manage employees’ expressions of interests; provide input on final proposal team selection
Participate on proposal teams in specific line roles including, but not limited to, coordination, subcontractor liaison, cost preparer, recruiter, or section writer (corporate capabilities, management, or personnel)
Begin to serve as a proposal line role mentor to fellow associates and others throughout the region
May shadow information gathering trips and accompany others to meetings with clients, local and/or international partners, or prospective recruits to build knowledge that informs future new business strategies
Recruit, interview, and suggest for employment candidates for a variety of positions, including highly specialized consultants and Chiefs of Party
Assist in researching, networking, and liaising with potential international or local subcontracting partners; act as point of contact from Chemonics before opportunities are released and maintains communications while opportunities are still pending
Handle increasingly complex recruitment of candidates for proposals, including discussing overall strategy and expected field team roles, and calculating and communicating benefits, allowances, and salary rates in conformance with Chemonics’ policy and proposal strategy
Serve as resource for building division employees’ capacity on new business; share knowledge about line roles; facilitate new business orientation sessions; and connect employees with new business training opportunities
Recruit and provide logistical support to new business consultants, which includes collecting verification documents, drafting agreements, coordinating travel logistics, etc.
Update and maintain internal files, which includes collecting and saving resumes, creating billing codes, entering data into corporate reporting tools, and keeping new business trackers up to date
Schedule and coordinates team meetings, which includes collecting agenda items and drafting meeting agendas
Demonstrate increasing fluency and versatility on topics related to international development, foreign assistance programming, and Chemonics’ contribution to such efforts
Demonstrate increasing technical knowledge about projects, countries, and regions relevant for work assignments. Undertake technical or administrative field assignments, assists in capturing project results data, and assists in developing consultant scopes of work
Provide basic technical information to support new business efforts, Chemonics’ knowledge base, practice networks, and other work products, as requested by supervisor and colleagues
Maintain and expand technical knowledge in own discipline and begins to expand versatility in international development work by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies and Chemonics practice networks
Consistently produce work product that meets Chemonics’ and the clients’ standards of performance
Communicate information in a way that demonstrates a solid understanding of development assistance, Chemonics’ culture, values, and practices, and the specific scope and nature of project and proposal assignments
Initiate recruitment process for new associates, including recommending new talent, organizing interviews, and recommending offers
Promote a work environment that emphasizes teamwork, respect for differences, and accepting and giving constructive feedback
Perform other duties and responsibilities as required
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in project management, contract management, or other relevant area required with ability to solve administrative and operational issues
Successful work experience in a developing country strongly preferred
Working knowledge of Chemonics’s main clients
Demonstrated ability to provide input to or write complicated proposal or report sections; ability to communicate orally in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner
Ability to make significant contributions to end products and direct others to achieve results
Ability to successfully work on one or two medium to high-complexity projects and perform increasingly challenging new business assignments
Willingness to travel and work overseas up to 4-8 weeks per year
Strong organizational and work prioritization skills, attention to detail
Significant experience with computerized spreadsheets such as MS Excel
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Demonstrated leadership, versatility and integrity
Fluency in English required; secondary language proficiency strongly preferred
