The role

Momentum Country and Global Leadership (MCGL, formerly called Momentum 2A) is a global project funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to provide targeted MNCH/FP/RH technical and capacity development assistance to countries to facilitate countries' journeys to self-reliance. MCGL aims to contribute to global technical leadership and learning for achievement of global MNCH/FP/RH goals through support to globally endorsed MNCH/FP/RH initiatives, strategies, frameworks, guidelines, and action plans.

In Sierra Leone, given the persistently high rate of maternal, newborn, child mortality and the lessons learned from the impact of Ebola on health services, there is a need to pivot certain approaches and bring a greater focus on using data to better target improvement efforts. Although RMNCH/A health has been articulated as a key national priority for Sierra Leone with the launch of the Free Healthcare Initiative in 2010, progress has been slow. In Sierra Leone, the MCGL project is led by JPHIEGO, but operationally managed by Save the Children.

The Project Coordinator will provide overall leadership and coordination of the project in Sierra Leone, ensuring high quality delivery of RMNCH/A health services. The Project Coordinator will oversee the operational component of the project, including budget, human resources, implementation, monitoring, and learning. S/he reports to the Director of Programme Operations, and works in close collaboration with all other Save the Children departments and programmes in Sierra Leone, as well as with all other consortium partners and technical teams under the MCGL project in Sierra Leone.


Undergraduate degree in health, public health, or related; or professional training in the health sector




At least 4 - 5 years of relevant programming experience in Public Health Management, RMNCH, adolescent health services, emergency health and outbreak management and/or community health service delivery; in management positions is an added advantage.

Previous experience in the Sierra Leone or West African context.

Proven experience in all aspects of programme implementation, including design, planning, implementation, and monitoring/evaluation.

Experience in financial management; management/monitoring of programme grants and budgets

Experience in integrating gender, diversity and other power related issues into program activities.

Experience in managing programme teams across multiple geographic sites, including staff development, coaching, and performance management.

Experience in monitoring and evaluation, use of qualitative and quantitative data to analyse progress in programmes, and the use of logical or results frameworks, theories of change, etc.

Substantial experience and skills in establishing and maintaining external relations with government, community stakeholders and civil society.

Fluency in written and spoken English; excellent documentation and report-writing skills.

Proficiency in computer e.g. MS Word, MS Power Point and Excel.

Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.

Experience in working with local/national civil society partners, managing partner contracts and relationships, ensuring mutual and institutional capacity building, joint monitoring, etc.

Child participation: experience in implementing programmes or activities directly with/for children.

Strong analytical and conceptual skills and the ability to think and plan strategically.


Willing to commit to Save the Children's aims, values and principles.

Experience in more than one country is an advantage.

Ability to be self-sufficient and resourceful, proactive in identifying and addressing challenges, yet consulting and asking for assistance as needed/relevant.

Ability and willingness to travel to project communities and stay in basic conditions.

Contract length: 18 Months
