The Syria Peace Initiative (SPI) builds on three years of Peace Process Support implemented by GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Foreign Office and EU. The aim of the Initiative is to support an inclusive political transition and to strengthen civil society to promote democracy, human rights and freedom of speech. SPI works along the full spectrum of the formal and informal peace consultations on and in Syria. SPI succeeds in bridging gaps between stakeholders from different sides of the various Syrian dividing lines and in linking the different levels of the peace process while reinforcing cross-cutting issues such as women empowerment and conflict sensitivity.


Your tasks

  • Support overall coordination and management of the Initiative’s implementation
  • Prepare advice for Federal Foreign Office, EU and other project partners on the strategic development of the Initiative
  • Provide technical advice and oversight to maintain coherence between the analyses of the political situation and the scope of activities
  • Ensure coordination and coherence of the SPI portfolio and all units, the management of the grants and the other modalities of implementation
  • Assure monitoring, quality control, budget execution and reporting
  • Design, technically advise and backstop grant agreements


Your profile

  • Master’s degree in social or political science, business administration or a related field
  • Strong conflict and political analysis skills and ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Experience in the provision of political and strategic advice including demonstrated experience in facilitating policy dialogue and capacity building, preferably in the Middle East
  • Proven track record of professional (hands-on) experience in facilitating mediation, conflict-management or peace-building efforts
  • Proven track record in the implementation of high-volume, complex projects
  • Strong communications and drafting skills and ability to operate in a politically sensitive environment
  • High levels of flexibility, reliability and motivation
  • Living and work experience in countries in the Middle East and in fragile, highly dynamic contexts is a strong asset
  • Familiarity with Syrian conflict dynamics is a strong asset
  • Fluency in English, Arabic and/or German is an asset
