Job Description

The IRC’s Institutional Philanthropy & Partnerships (IPP) team, which sits within the International Development Department, raises funds from private foundations, corporate foundations and from business areas including corporate social responsibility, marketing, sponsorship, employee giving and match giving. The IPP team matches institutional funder interests with the IRC’s extensive programs globally. Institutional Philanthropy & Partnerships is a key unit of the IRC’s Global Partnerships & Philanthropy Department.

The Officer for Institutional Philanthropy & Partnerships manages a portfolio of foundations and corporate clients primarily in the technology sector supporting the IRC through financial and other resource commitments. The Officer creates tailored strategies for collaboration with foundations and businesses, with a focus on sustained revenue generation and humanitarian impact through innovative, outcomes-based partnerships. The Officer also oversees an Account Manager who supports the successful management and development of the portfolio.

The Officer reports directly to an IPP Associate Director, and works closely with the IPP Director and Senior Director, as well as others from the IRC’s senior leadership, including the President & CEO, VP of International Development, as well as program and communications colleagues to develop engagement strategies for technology sector clients at a deep strategic level. The Officer works closely with colleagues in the IRC’s international and US programs teams, both at IRC Headquarters and in the field, maintaining engagement with and knowledge of programs and acting as a collaborative and respectful colleague and liaison between funder and program.

The Officer is a self-motivated and creative professional with excellent skills in building client relationships, opportunity identification and development, project management, writing and presentation skills.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Work with the IPP Associate Director to establish funding goals and benchmarks for a portfolio of private sector partners in support of GPP Private Sector Engagement Strategy with a focus on diversified and sustainable funding streams, increasing unrestricted funds, and expanding influence.
  • Work with the IPP Associate Director and others to develop and prioritize a series of high-impact, insightful solutions-focused opportunities that serve the IRC’s beneficiaries across the world, whilst offering private sector clients innovative outlets to deploy philanthropic, marketing-based, core-business and other strategies in support of the IRC’s humanitarian agenda;
  • Design and implement creative and comprehensive outreach, solicitation and management strategies for partners within the portfolio, leading on partnership negotiations, proposal submissions, and pitches;
  • Support the involvement of the IPP Sr./Director and VP of International Development, and other IRC staff (including the President), in high-level private sector partnership solicitations and relationship management with briefing materials, agendas, background research and appropriate follow-up;
  • Support the involvement of the IRC’s Board members and Overseers in relationship-building and client management activities;
  • Monitor and analyze philanthropic and other corporate and foundation partnership trends so that market opportunities may be capitalized on, ensuring that the IRC’s partnership proposition remains compelling and competitive;
  • Establish a robust client servicing plan for each institutional partner, including identifying key SMART performance indicators, on-going planning and reporting procedures in order to optimize quality of service, income growth, and donor satisfaction;
  • Ensure open and relevant communication is maintained between the IRC and our private sector partners;
  • Synthesize the IRC’s complex programs into clear, compelling presentations, proposals, and reports for private sector audiences;
  • Manage the workflow for an assigned Account Manager who will support portfolio management and growth; and
  • Maintain clear CRM records for the portfolio that contribute to comprehensive tracking/reporting on IPP’s client universe.


  • Bachelors Degree;
  • Minimum three years experience of front-line foundation and/or corporate fundraising experience in a dynamic environment;
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills, including: speaking to and writing for donors; crafting compelling partnership proposals and pitch materials;
  • Knowledge of foundation and corporate philanthropy planning processes, with an understanding of the particular issues affecting the field;
  • Experience of working to, and meeting, ambitious revenue goals and performance indicators, as well as participating in financial projections, reporting, and scenario planning;
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain positive, collaborative, productive relationships with staff at all levels;
  • Sound judgment in maintaining confidentiality of donor information;
  • Ability to translate an organization’s strategy and objectives into operational delivery and, at times, respond quickly to changes in short-term priorities;
  • Understanding of the necessary support processes required to deliver effective institutional funder relationships;
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to devise creative solutions to complex problems and issues;
  • CRM experience – Salesforce and/or Raisers Edge;
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data with the facility to understand budget models;
  • Ability to respond quickly to changes in short-term work priorities;
  • Ability to identify and create processes necessary to support effective partnerships;
  • Passion for the IRC’s mission and commitment to private sector partnerships;
  • Commitment to fundraising for international development, human rights, social justice and US immigrant communities
  • Driver’s license, ability and willingness to travel domestically and occasionally internationally, and ability to work evenings and weekend as needed.
